Ireland's Rugby World Cup 2023 dreams dashed as France wins the vote

The countries bidding for the honour of hosting the Rugby World Cup 2023 are France, Ireland and South Africa.

The announcement was made by World Rugby in London on Wednesday. It insists, however, that the necessary due diligence was carried out.

French Rugby Federation President Bernard Laporte had previously accused World Rugby of "negligence" and "amateurism" and being dishonest about the independence of the consultancy agencies employed as part of the report, which ranked France second and Ireland third.

Ireland will find out later whether its bid to host the Rugby World Cup for the first time in 2023 has been successful.
