Texas State Sophomore Dies After Fraternity Initiation Ceremony

Friends of Ellis called 911, and Ellis was pronounced dead after first responders were unable to revive him, Trauth said. His friends called 911 at approximately 11 a.m., the day after his fraternity's initiation ceremonies on November 12, when they realized he wasn't breathing. Ellis was declared dead less than an hour later, police said in a statement. Investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor in his death, but are awaiting toxicology results from the autopsy, which is expected to take 6-8 weeks.

According to The University Star, the college's student newspaper, Ellis had been initiated into the campus chapter of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity the previous night.

A 20-year-old Texas State University student from Humble was found unconscious Monday morning at an off-campus apartment complex. Phi Kappa Psi did not have any registered social event the day before Ellis' death, according to an online calendar of approved social events. Members of Phi Kappa Psi declined a request to comment. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and the Texas State Community.

Trauth released a statement Tuesday afternoon suspending all fraternity and sorority activities on campus.

On Oct. 4, the university launched a formal review of Phi Kappa Psi's activities following a September 21 complaint that alleged misbehavior within the fraternity, Flores said.

Petr Cech tells Tottenham to win trophy to match Arsenal success
"They've been there in the last few years so now I think they have to make sure they win something to show the progression".

Ellis is the second Texas State student to die since the winter of 2016 after attending an off-campus Greek event.

Although a Texas Department of Public Safety official said that she had not heard of an incident like Ellis' death occurring in San Marcos in the past three years, alcohol-related deaths involving fraternities are common. No arrests have been made at this time.
