This 10-year-old unlocked his mom's iPhone X using Face ID

A video has surfaced on YouTube in which a 10-year-old boy is seen unlocking his mother's iPhone X using his face.

In the video, the mother explains that even though she set up the facial recognition to her face specifically, her 10-year-old son is still able to unlock it with his.

The "lesson" parents should perhaps take away from this is to register Face ID in a bright room to minimise the chances of this becoming an issue. She reregistered a third time in dimmer lighting to replicate her initial registration, and then, her son was able to unlock the phone again.

Attuallah Malik and Sana Sherwani discovered this when their fifth-grade son Ammar Malik simply picked up his mother's new iPhone X without her permission and shocked her by unlocking the device with his first glance.

Although Apple says Face ID is more secure than Touch ID, this raises questions about the possibility of false positives not only happening with twins and siblings around the same age, but with people of different sexes and significantly different ages.

Attaullah Malik, the husband of Sherwani, pointed out some flaws in a LinkedIn post that led his son to unlock the iPhone X of his wife.

Vietnamese cybersecurity firm Bkav, claims it's been able to bypass the iPhone X's Face ID feature using a mask. The mask in the video is intricately put together, with a silicone nose, specially crafted "skin", and 3D-printed parts.
