Google's services remain up almost all of the time, so even the slightest outage is a surprise.

As of 4 p.m. EST, Google's G Suite Dashboard said there was "a problem with Google Docs affecting a significant subset of users", and that it would "provide an update by 11/15/17, 5:30 PM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem." . In that incident, some users received error messages indicating their files violated Google's terms of service, much to their chagrin.

Google Drive and Google Docs weren't working properly for some people on Wednesday afternoon.

There is no reason to suspect that any Google Docs files have been destroyed, lost, or damaged in any way.

Google Docs states that they are still committed to high quality systems that fully secure files as well as keep content safe. For a product with a user base that reaches into the hundreds of millions at a minimum, that's certain to mean a huge number of people experiencing a disruption.

Google reported that millions of businesses pay to use its G Suite, which includes Google Docs. "We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support". All to say, that's a lot of folks relying on Google Docs to do everyday tasks.
