The company is offering the new app called Messenger Kids for those users who are too young to use Facebook due to the age limitation of the site.

While the Facebook technically only allows children aged 13 to create profiles, lax prevention methods has resulted in more than 20 million under under-13-year-olds using the network, according to Consumer Reports. Facebook Messenger Kids requires parents to set up an account and approve their children's contacts.

"To give kids and parents a fun, safer solution, we built Messenger Kids, a standalone app that lives on kids' tablets or smartphones but can be controlled from a parent's Facebook account".

Delivery for both configurations and colors are slated for December 13, which is consistent with the carrier-supported units. The unlocked version has appeared on Apple's website, where it is listed alongside the existing carrier-centric versions.

Facebook announced a new messaging service yesterday for children as young as six.

There will also be "a library of kid-appropriate and specially chosen GIFs, frames, stickers, masks and drawing tools lets them decorate content and express their personalities".

Facebook in its response wrote: "On Thursday November 30 just after midnight Pacific time we bacame aware that a few people were having issues with their Messenger accounts".
