House Intelligence committee questions Donald Trump Jr. on Russian Federation contacts

Trump Jr. was forced to correct his claim when the New York Times reported that he agreed to meeting, also attended by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law, after they were told the Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, could share damaging information on Clinton provided by the Russian government as part of a Russian effort to help the Trump campaign.

"In my view, there is no attorney client privilege that protects a discussion between a father and son", Schiff said. He added: "I don't believe you can shield communications between individuals merely by having an attorney present".

The meeting, which lasted just under 8 hours, was the longest meeting the president's son has had before a Congressional Committee, compared to a previous meeting he had with the Senate Judiciary Committee for multiple hours in September. Trump Jr. refused to answer questions about a conversation father and son had in July.

Donald Trump Jr. was grilled behind closed doors in Congress Wednesday about his contacts with Russian Federation as pressure builds on his father over alleged collusion with Moscow in last year's election.

But according to CNN, the Veselnitskaya meeting, and how the White House tried to explain it away as a discussion about USA adoption of Russian orphans, was one focus of the questioning. The White House has said the president was involved in drafting an early statement saying the meeting primarily concerned a Russian adoption program.

In May previous year Trump Jr. also met Torshin at a U.S. National Rifle Association event. Veselnitskaya said these documents appeared to be Trump Jr.'s primary interest as the meeting essentially ended when she said she didn't have the information.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) was left scratching his head after the House Intelligence Committee's closed-door interview with Donald Trump Jr. on Wednesday.

Trump's alleged role in helping his son lie could show that he wanted to hide the truth from investigators as well as the public. It was then that Trump Jr., per the sources, said Clinton's testimony was not the same: she was testifying about the 2012 attack in Benghazi where four Americans were killed. But he refused to disclose the contents of their conversations.

Committee Democrats subsequently questioned the legitimacy of Trump Jr.'s privilege claim and raised the possibility of seeking a subpoena to compel him to answer.

Schiff told reporters that he wants Trump answer questions about his conversations with his father and their public response to the meeting.

But Schiff questioned whether that was a valid reason to not tell Congress about the conversations.
