THR reports the Deadpool actor joins Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Kathryn Newton (Little Big Lies) on the flick. Shooting for the project is geared to start around mid-January, with Rob Letterman of Goosebumps fame directing and Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) penning the script. When his father goes missing, Smith's character teams up with the Pokémon investigator to find him.

Ryan Reynolds is set to star in the live-action Pokemon movie "Detective Pikachu". Nintendo and The Pokémon Company released a Detective Pikachu game for the 3DS past year, and Legendary announced it is adapting the property into a film in August 2016.
