"You have to wonder whether he felt he was omnipotent, whether he felt he was getting away with something so cleverly", U.S. District Judge Janet Neff said Thursday in a Grand Rapids, Mich., courtroom, according to the Lansing State Journal.

Neff says the 54-year-old Nassar "should never again have access to children". Those counts carry possible 20-year prison terms, which could be imposed concurrently or consecutively. He has pleaded guilty to 10 sexual assault charges and will be sentenced next month.

In court filings last week, Nassar's attorneys had asked Neff to show leniency, saying the doctor had worked toward redemption by helping fellow inmates and taking Bible classes since his arrest almost a year ago.

The former Team USA Olympian is reportedly asking for the judge to consider the maximum sentence: 60 years behind bars.

Nassar, accused in civil and criminal complaints of sexually assaulting more than 140 women, also has pleaded guilty to several sex crimes in two counties in MI, and will be sentenced for those charges in separate hearings in state courts next month.

Nassar reportedly reached a plea deal and said he would accept a sentence of 22 to 27 years in a child pornography case. After police took the trash back to the department and searched it, they found three other external hard drives in a small plastic bag.

Some of the videos appeared to show Nassar assaulting young girls in a pool, investigators said.

He'll be sentenced in those cases in January. He also pleaded guilty to 10 state counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in November, with numerous 125 women who filed police reports against him in those cases saying he used his hands to penetrate them and claimed it was part of a medical procedure, according to

Nassar is accused of sexually abusing over 140 women and girls.

He started working at MSU, his alma mater, in 1997.

More than 100 civil claims are pending against Michigan State and USA Gymnastics. Nassar faces at least 25 years in prison in the other cases. Among the star gymnasts to accuse Nassar of abusing them are gold medalists McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas. He served as the USA Gymnastics physician through four Olympic Games. He lost his medical license earlier this year. MSU fired him in September 2016.
