Google is hoping to pressure Amazon into selling Google's products by taking away access to the world's most widely watched video service.

The stakes are high: many in the technology industry expect that interacting with computers by voice will become widespread, and it is unclear if Amazon, Google or another company will dominate the space. According to eMarketer, the Roku ($30) is the most popular streaming device in the U.S.

Google made a decision to implement the restriction since Amazon does not sell Google's products.

Jennifer Lawrence Says Her Films Are Like Boyfriends
The Oscar-winning actress said she avoided sexual movie roles after her nude photos were stolen in a widespread hack in 2014. So I needed a moment to process everything because I thought I knew this guy, and then he's being accused of rape.

Google is pulling its popular YouTube video service from Amazon's Fire TV and Echo Show devices in an escalating feud that has caught consumers in the crossfire. "Google is setting a disappointing precedent by selectively blocking customer access to an open website". While it doesn't seem that the streaming video service will support Google Cast streaming anytime soon, at least those in Apple's ecosystem will be able to take advantage of the thousands of TV shows and movies that are available on the service.

Amazon's own streaming device, Fire TV ($70), competes directly with the pricier Apple TV ($149).

If the new announcement has you thinking of signing up to Amazon Prime Video you can test it out with a free 30-day trial.

Apple TV fans may be happy to hear you can now download the Amazon Video Prime App onto your Apple TV 4K as well as the older generations of the Apple TV. Not so with Google. In September, Google blocked YouTube support for the Echo Show and at the time said Amazon's implementation "violates our terms of service, creating a broken user experience".

At this point, it's easy to see why Amazon wouldn't want to support Google's products, and vice versa: Each company is using hardware to fortify themselves while attacking their rival's core business.

It wasn't until relatively recently at WWDC 2017 when Apple and Amazon belatedly said they had reached an agreement to develop a dedicated tvOS app for the Apple TV. If they manage to reach an agreement chances are you will still get to watch YouTube on Amazon devices after December 31st.
