Buffalo, Syracuse and Cleveland are big cities all familiar with lake effect snow, but sometimes we get some too.

Travel will likely be hard with snow covered, slippery roads and low visibility in the aforementioned areas.

Until then, snow is expected to be light when it falls at all.

The snow squall watch issued at 8:21 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, and updated on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 11:12 a.m. was ended for North Bay and area at 3:46 p.m.

By Wednesday evening, the winds will begin to shift to a more westerly direction, allowing for the plume of lake-effect snow to be directed to areas east of Lake Erie in Lake Ontario. The best precipitation chances next week come Thursday with snow, about 24 hours later than our previous forecast.

Late this week, we'll also see an upper-level system pivot from the Midwest towards the Appalachians.

Much colder air has moved into the state and will park here for a while.

Snows are back on Monday. In fact, if the current moisture projections hold, we could see several inches in spots from I-70 northward next week. So, we will keep chances for accumulating snow with the eve4nt, but move it to Thursday instead of Wednesday. The northern half of the state sees better snow chances in our forecast this morning. Then Monday night through Tuesday, we see the snow intensity drop, but coverage expands to almost 75% of the state seeing some kind of snowflake action for the period through Tuesday.

Within the lake effect snow band (s) snowfall accumulations of a foot or more will likely occur in the heaviest, most persistent snow during this 2 day stretch. We see better sun chances on Sunday, and it will not be as cold. These kinds of totals mean that the snow will be very gradual through the period. High 43F. Winds WSW at 10 to 15 miles per hour.
