A Pearl Harbor survivor from Central Texas is sharing what he experienced on December 7, 1941.

"Father Time is ticking forward and we have fewer and fewer Pearl Harbor survivors participating in these events", organizer Chris Cleaver said.

Lawmakers and the Naval Supply Systems Command honored three survivors from the Keystone State: Isaac George, Richard Schimmel, and Pat Bonnelli.

Michael "Mickey" Ganitch, a chief quartermaster on the USS Pennsylvania more than seven decades ago, launched into a chorus of 'Remember Pearl Harbor, ' a 1941 Sammy Kaye hit that was recorded ten days after the Japanese sneak attack. To this day the U.S.S. Arizona still remains sunken, along with the remains of some of its crew members.

"Those were the saddest people I've ever seen in my life", said Bell. "I think of my friends who aren't here", said Schimmel.

Stoeber, whose ashes were scattered in Pearl Harbor after he died January 16, 2016, at age 97, was a.50-caliber machine-gunner aboard the destroyer tender USS Whitney in the Pacific theater of World War II.
