Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou set for UFC 220

Move over, Daniel Cormier.

Alistair Overeem was on the wrong end of a brutal knockout in his co-main event fight against Francis Ngannou at UFC 218. The last time it happened was on December 27, 2008, at UFC 92, where 205-pound champion Forrest Griffin lost the title to Rashad Evans via TKO, while interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was stopped for the first time in his career by Frank Mir. The UFC is reportedly eyeing a heavyweight championship bout between Ngannou and reigning titleholder Stipe Miocic for UFC 220 on January 20 at the TD Garden in Boston, MMAjunkie's Simon Samano reports.

UFC 220 now features one other title fight, a light heavyweight championship showdown between Daniel Cormier and fast-rising contender Volkan Oezdemir. UFC 220 appears to have a new main event.

This would mark just the fourth time in UFC history that the heavyweight and light heavyweight titles would be at stake on the same card. Prior to that, he finished off challenger Alistair Overeem at UFC 206 a year ago. Ngannou (11-1), however, has been active, stopped every fighter put in front of him, and is every opponent's nightmare: big, strong, fast, and hits like a Mack truck.

Ngannou is 11-1-0 in his professional MMA career and 6-0 since entering the UFC in 2015. He defeated Overeem via first-round KO at UFC 203 last September, before stopping former champion Junior dos Santos with a first-round TKO at UFC 211 in May.

Adding to his marketability is a rags-to-riches story, his humble giant nature, and the fact that he recently set a record for punching power.
