Dakar Rally: In Bolivia, Mena stands tall at halfway stage

Carlos Sainz has chipped away at Peugeot team-mate Stephane Peterhansel's 2018 Dakar Rally lead with his first stage victory of this year's event as the rally left Peru for Bolivia. The Spaniard finished 11th, which puts him in the top 15 for the second time in the 2018 Dakar.

Unpredictable weather played the real cards yesterday and the first part of the 6th stage from Arequipa to La Paz had to be cancelled owing to bad weather and foggy conditions.

The revised sixth stage was limited only to a 194km of timed section from the originally planned 313km but not before the riders tackled everything from snow, freezing temperature and rain. With Pedrero the lone rider from TVS Sherco still in the running, he will be looking to close the gap to the leaders before the Dakar Rally moves to Argentina as he looks to accomplish another top 10 finish. Oriol Mena finished the stage at 27th place and Santosh at 29th. Teammate and Dakar rookie Oriol Mena did considerably better finishing the stage in 23rd place and 21st overall. After having been 33rd in the overall standings after the first four stages, his unfortunate injury saw him drop out of the classification.
