Gillian Anderson explains why she has quit 'X-Files'

Anderson said she originally thought she would call it quits on Scully after the original reunion of six new "X-Files" episodes in 2016 - but ultimately the finale of that episodic batch "didn't feel like the right way to end it".

Speaking during a panel as part of the Television Critics Association's press tour (via Deadline), Anderson explained that there's so much she hopes to do moving forward, and The X-Files was, in a way, keeping her from doing those things.

Met Office alert - more strong gusting winds to hit Sussex
The Met Office stated that gusts of 100mph winds were measured at Great Dun Fell in Cumbria in the early hours of the morning. In the United Kingdom , thousands of homes were without power and travel was disrupted after the storm hit.

"It's time for me to hang up Scully's hat", she said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "It just is. I'm finished, and that's the end of that".

A short season of six episodes brought the show back in 2016, and it returned again for another six episodes on January 3. I felt that the previous six was going to be it. "I think as [series creator] Chris [Carter] has said himself, that short stack of episodes felt like we were learning how to walk again and that this season of 10 feels like the pace is up and we're running".

Three Billboards' wins best drama film Globe

Co-star David Duchovny - who plays Fox Mulder - said that he was "good either way" when asked whether the show would continue.

Gillian Anderson also mentioned that she won't be starring in American Gods on Starz. "Bryan [Fuller] and Michael Green aren't either, as has been announced", Anderson said. Now the actress has not only confirmed that this is the end of the line for her on The X-Files, but she has shut down the notion of returning at any point in the future.

Canada complains to WTO about United States trade duties
Trying to get as much as possible from the process by using all political and legal means available is simply part of the process. The complaint covers actions taken against not just Canada but countries all around the world, from Japan to South Africa.

Anderson continued: "I wouldn't necessarily have been happy if those six [episodes from season 10] were how we said goodbye..." While that's not really any worse than most of the other shows on Fox we have to believe (slight X-Files nod intended) that this is a show they were expecting more out of given its fame and pedigree. As for David Duchovny, who has played her partner Fox Mulder since the inception of the series, he seems to be on the fence on whether or not the show could survive without Anderson. I'm feeling pretty p*ssed off, now that I remember, ' he joked. It's not as if Anderson has just been sitting around twiddling her thumbs with nothing to do when The X-Files wasn't on TV.
