A complaint alleges that the dossier falsely claimed Mr Cohen had "an inappropriate and possibly criminal relationship with the Russian government" and argues that the dossier's publication caused him "significant financial and reputational damages".

Cohen also sent the Journal a statement he claimed was signed by "Stormy Daniels", Clifford's professional name, and calls the allegations of hush money "completely false". Two sources at ABC News told CNN that Daniels was in touch with producers at ABC's "Good Morning America" in the fall of 2016 about a potential interview and was prepared to discuss Trump. As Trump took office, Cohen said he would work in private practice and act as Trump's personal attorney.
