Meanwhile in Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index hit a record-high, while Japan's Nikkei closed at its highest level in 26 years.

The major USA stock indexes continued to trend higher on Tuesday with the NASDAQ Composite leading the way. Facebook rose $3.98, or 2.1 percent, to $189.35 and Google's parent company Alphabet gained $12.01, or 1 percent, to $1,176.17.
