In a series of tweets before a scheduled announcement from the White House on Thursday about new tariffs on steel and aluminum, Tesla CEO Elon Musk suggested to President Trump that the USA should seek more "equal & fair" trade rules for cars with China.

Amid a series of tweets Thursday, Musk - apparently frustrated by the Asian nation's import duties - compared China's trade policy to "competing in an Olympic race wearing lead shoes".

Musk has faced roadblocks while trying to build a Tesla factory in Shanghai.

"Hope this does not seem unreasonable", he tweeted in conclusion. Trump was discussing the tariff bill and its possible effects when he read a printed copy of Musk's tweet.

Politicians "have known it for years and never did anything about it".

On Thursday, Trump said he meant to impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, but may exempt imports from Canada. Whether it will include electric cars however, is still unclear, as is the president's plans on how to impose such radical tax program.

The owner of the companies, SpaceX and Tesla Elon Musk introduced the concept of a new underground electric bus, which in the future may be analogous to metro. Musk tweeted previous year that the company was already digging the tunnels under Los Angeles.

Tesla has been exporting cars to China and accounts for almost nine per cent of the electric vehicles (EV) market in the country.

Djokovic later said he felt as though he was playing his first match on tour. "I mean, I just completely lost rhythm, everything". In a rain-hampered match, Federer won the first set on the weekend, before the wet weather forced play to be delayed overnight .

The tweets came one day after Trump wrote that his administration had asked Beijing to cut the annual US trade deficit by $100 billion (though his tweet mistakenly listed the amount at $1 billion).

In a nutshell, the program will require countries to pay the same amount of taxes to what they are charging.

Musk said that the high tariffs on cars imported to China, as well as manufacturing rules in the Asian country, have made things "very difficult" for the company.

But when Trump read Musk's tweets during a press event, he said that "at some point", the President was likely to enforce what he called a "reciprocal or mirror tax", where he would match the tariffs China has put on United States imports.

Musk has met with Trump on several occasions since his election in November 2016. Yesterday, CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter to let the world know that the company will prioritize mass transportation over individual vehicle usage. In June 2017, Musk withdrew from a pair of White House advisory councils after Trump said he would withdraw from the Paris climate accord.
