In the latest gender pay gap scandal, it has been revealed that The Crown actor Claire Foy was paid less than her co-star Matt Smith for both the first and second series of the Netflix show.

If you thought the most valuable person in The Crown would be the person who wears the crown, think again - producers have revealed that Doctor Who star Matt Smith was actually paid more for the Netflix series than co-star Claire Foy.

The admission about the salaries was made at the INTV conference in Jerusalem this week.

She's not known for histrionics, but Queen Elizabeth II would surely struggle to maintain her famous poise if she knew the actress playing her on "The Crown" earned less than the man portraying her husband.

Winfrey, however, didn't let Trump's insults get the best of her. This isn't the first time the president has targeted her.

The show is replacing its leads when filming begins in July, Olivia Colman is stepping in as the Queen. Smith was nominated twice, with Foy, for Screen Actors Guild awards for performance in an ensemble for The Crown.

"Going forward, no-one gets paid more than the queen", Variety quoted Ms Mackie as saying.

However, even if the pay gap is remedied in future seasons, it won't benefit Foy, whose work on the series is over.

It's reported that Claire earnt around £40,000 per episode of the show.

At a cost of $7 million per episode, The Crown is one of the most expensive TV series ever made.

Salary parity has become a larger part of the conversation as the Time's Up movement continues to gather steam, encouraging women to speak up about subjects like money, that were once considered taboo.

Her male counterpart Mark Wahlberg received a negotiated fee of $1.5 (€1.2) million.

Mark Wahlberg made news earlier this year when it was revealed that he was paid $1.5 million USA for reshoots on movie All the Money in the World, while co-star Michelle Williams received $1,000 US.
