Matt Patricia's Detroit Lions Reportedly Interested In Malcolm Butler

The New Orleans Saints, who considered trying to acquire Butler before trading wide receiver Brandin Cooks to the Patriots past year, have shown a renewed interest, per Dianna Russini of ESPN.

An overlooked prospect in 2014 out of Division II West Alabama, he was invited to New England for a tryout and earned a contract on the offseason 90-man roster nearly a month after the draft.

The free agent cornerback intends to sign with the Tennessee Titans on a five-year, $61 million contract with more than $30 million guaranteed, per NFL Network and first reported by ESPN.

Time to turn Brexit speeches into treaties: EU's Juncker
Juncker says both sides have agreed that there should be no hard border on the island of Ireland and that must be respected. Britain has said it no longer wants to be part of the EU's seamless and tariff-free internal market and the customs union.

Butler has forced four fumbles, picked off seven passes and defensed 44 of them over the last three seasons, while playing in all 48 games.

Bill Belichick's decision to sit Butler in the Super Bowl sealed his fate, but he'd been unlikely to return in 2018 even since the Patriots signed cornerback Stephon Gilmore to a big-money deal. A former Patriots executive in Jon Robinson runs the Titans front office, and he hired former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel to be his coach this year.

Malcolm Butler, as expected, will not play with the Patriots next season after agreeing to join the Tennessee Titans. And though the contract is a pricey one, the Titans had over $50 million in cap space to spend this year, so Butler does not break their bank just yet.

Goodbye, Case Keenum (Denver), Sam Bradford (Arizona), Teddy Bridgewater (NY Jets)
Bradford enters his age-31 campaign and arguably has the highest upside of any of the available veterans this offseason. The Cardinals are set to sign former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford , according to multiple reports Tuesday.

Butler started every game in 2015 and 2016, earning a Pro Bowl berth in 2015, though his future with the team was uncertain after the 2016 season, when he was a restricted free agent.

Butler's departure leaves the Patriots with a need at cornerback this offseason.
