Novak Djokovic loses on his comeback at Indian Wells

Federer is making his 17th appearance in the California desert and is assured of remaining world number one if he makes it to the semifinals in Indian Wells.

Holder Roger Federer avoided the same fate as Djokovic, though the Swiss top seed was pushed by left-handed Argentine Federico Delbonis in a match that was completed Sunday after being halted by rain at 2-2 in the second set the previous day.

It's the 25-year-old's biggest career win.

Other seeded players who lost were ninth-seeded Lucas Pouille, who fell 6-4, 6-4 to Yuki Bhambri; 14th-seeded Diego Schwartzman, 7-5, 6-4 to Marcos Baghdatis; 21st-seeded Kyle Edmund, 6-4, 6-4 to Dudi Sela; and No. 24 seed Giles Muller, 6-3, 7-5 to Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

It was another snag in the return for the 30-year-old Djokovic who admitted he was out of sorts while playing in just his second event of 2018.

Djokovic shut down his season after Wimbledon in 2017 and despite not being at his best, made a decision to play at this year's Australian Open where he was ousted by South Korea's Hyeon Chung in the fourth round.

American Sloane Stephens, the 13th seed in the women's draw, was scheduled to play two-time BNP Paribas Open champion Victoria Azarenka following the Federer-Delbonis match in Stadium 1. It was the former world No.1's first match since returning from an injury, which forced him to undergo a surgery earlier in February. The world No. 44 served only one double fault on her way to wrapping up the match in 1 hour, 21 minutes.

Federer said he understands well how even a champion like Djokovic could be struggling to find his game so soon after having surgery. It is still early stages for Novak coming back and the first one after surgery.

Amendola to leave Pats for Dolphins
The Dolphins offense will look to improve on a lousy 2017 when it gets Ryan Tannehill back from injury this coming season. He racked up a career-high 85 receptions and 689 yards receiving in his sophomore season with the Rams.

"I just completely lost rhythm, everything", a candid Djokovic told press. After a slow start to the season, the Serbian quickly got some good results reaching Dubai semifinals and now Indian Wells third round.

"But it's not easy to deal with this kind of frustrations after injuries or when you always be the favorite to win a tournament, you come here and you lose in first round".

Argentina's del Potro, who is fresh off winning the Mexican Open title in Acapulco, hammered five aces and broke de Minaur's serve five times.
