SC: No need link Aadhaar to mobile, bank account until final judgement

The Supreme Court today extended indefinitely its March 31 deadline for linking bank accounts and mobile phone numbers with Aadhaar.

Moreover, the court has also said that Aadhaar can not be made mandatory for issuance of Tatkal passports. The Aadhaar number, however, must be linked with services like Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), PAHAL for LPG subsidy, and other subsidies to avail their benefits, the top court ruled.

Supreme Court extended March 31 deadline for Aadhaar linkages till the constitution bench delivers judgement on the matter.

The order indefinitely extends the deadline of March 31 to link the 12-digit Unique Identification number.
