RB McKinnon Signing With 49ers

Minnesota Vikings running back Jerick McKinnon (21) runs the ball against Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Corey Graham (24) during the second quarter in the NFC Championship game at Lincoln Financial Field.

National Football League insider Adam Schefter tweeted Wednesday morning that Jerick McKinnon has agreed to a 4-year, $30 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers. With Dalvin Cook on injured reserve, McKinnon split the backfield duties with Latavius Murray.

Lahore blast: Seven killed and many injured in explosion in Raiwind
The rare attack on the outskirts of the city of Lahore killed and wounded mostly security personnel. Ashraf said numerous wounded were police and three were hospitalized in critical condition.

McKinnon likely will start for the 49ers since they lost last year's starter, Carlos Hyde, in free agency to Cleveland. Splitting carries with Asiata, McKinnon rushed for 539 rushing yards with two touchdowns. According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, only $14.3 million of the contract is guaranteed, with around $11.7 million to be paid out in 2018, and $15.4 million over the next two seasons.

So the question is how Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers will view McKinnon this upcoming season. Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports that McKinnon was close to signing with the New York Jets, but San Francisco came back with an offer he could not turn down. It's completely fair to say McKinnon is the best of that bunch, but questions linger as to whether he can handle a full workload week in and week out in the NFL. To be fair to him, his career high in carries came in 2016, when the back touted the rock only 159 times for 539 yards.

The patch is also said to re-balance the game's weapons, but details on this have yet to be made available. April will also see the Spring Blossom Fest taking place and the Mega Man Palico gear surfacing.

It's been a busy offseason already for San Francisco. 49ers land the back they wanted.

While it's easy to quickly fall in love with McKinnon's fantasy potential in San Francisco, it may be wise to pump the brakes just a bit. He certainly has upside as a receiver, but McKinnon is best viewed as a mid-range RB2.
