Google Lens now available for iPhones and iPads

The feature is available on version 3.15 of the Google Photos iOS app, and Google noted that Lens activity will be saved to the user's Google account if the web and app activity setting is enabled.

The technology turns the camera into a smart scanner, of sorts.

Google began rolling out this innovative feature first to its Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL flagship smartphones late a year ago.

For example, you can add an event to your calendar from a photo of a flyer or event billboard, or you can snap a photo of a business card to store the person's phone number or address to your Contacts. That changes with an update to Google Photos, which will bake Lens functionality in for iOS devices. The software update follows on from its introduction in Google Photos for Android, which happened earlier this month.

Google Lens will allow you to "get more details or take action on your photo", according to the company. Rather than taking a new photo, Lens works from an existing shot in your library.

Landmark or building: You can get more details about it. Instead, you might see the Information "i" that shows up on my device when I try to access Lens.

Google recently announced the rollout Google Lens feature to Android ecosystem. The user may even delete any history from the "My Activity" page at any time. Nonetheless, as a sign of Google pushing computational photography and paving the way for more AR-style features that bridge real-world objects and locations with data, it's certainly an interesting experiment.
