John Bailey Sexual Harassment: Academy President Under Investigation
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president John Bailey is under investigation for allegations of sexual harassment.
Two weeks after the 90th Oscars and in the midst of Hollywood's sexual harassment reckoning, the head of the Academy is under investigation.
Since the appointment of Bailey, whose film credits include Groundhog Day, the academy has voted to expel Weinstein while the cinematographer has helped to establish a new code of conduct for the industry. Representatives for Bailey and the Academy did not immediately return EW's requests for comment. That followed an avalanche of sexual assault and harassment claims exposed in reports in the New York Times and the New Yorker, leading to a wave of claims in all reaches of Hollywood and beyond and the formation of the #MeToo and the #TimesUp movements. As a part of the new mandate, sufficiently substantiated allegations advance to the Academy's top committee, the Board of Governors, for consideration. His exodus was determined in a vote by Academy members. It did mark a victory for below-the-line workers in the group, many of whom have been wary of growing attention to high-profile actors and directors.

The 18-year-old was taken to a hospital for her injuries and was released the following afternoon. This is completely based on racism and discrimination because she didn't even know these girls".
Upon his election to a four-year term, succeeding Cheryl Boone Isaacs, there were concerns about whether a 75-year-old white man was best suited to lead the Academy at a time when it is making a push to diversify its membership.
Bailey's appointment this summer didn't come without controversy.
When asked about that by Variety past year, he said, "What you just said is bulls***".

Terrifying video shows skiers being thrown violently off the lift as they arrived at their destination. The Telegraph reported that 10 people suffered minor injuries and a Ukrainian citizen broke his hand.
If Bailey decides to step down, he would be replaced by Academy Vice President Lois Burwell, a make-up artist, until the next election in July. "Is this some sort of limiting factor?"
He is a noted film history buff, and has been invested in the creation of the Academy's new museum now under construction.
