Hart will also exec produce via her Hartbreak Films banner, which she runs with her mother, TV producer Paula Hart.

Series creator Mitchell Kriegman is also in talks to return to write and executive produce.

The original series was very successful for Nick, running for a total of 65 episodes over five seasons from 1991 to 1994 with Hart as Clarissa, the smart teenager who engaged her audience directly as she dealt with the inevitable problems of growing up.

Clarissa Explains It All ran on Nickelodeon from 1991 to 1994, and if you were a young girl during those years then you probably watched numerous show's 65 episodes, as the series created a cult audience over its five seasons.

After Clarissa, Hart went on to star in another iconic show: Sabrina, The Teenage Witch. Nickelodeon did not officially confirm the reboot, as the final deals with Hart and Kriegman have not been closed, but according to THR, multiple sources said it's early in development.

While the star is excited for the Clarissa reboot, she wasn't as keen on Netflix's new dark twist on Sabrina, which is now in the works. It should also be interesting to see if any of the other original stars return.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last month, Hart said she felt "indifferent" about the Netflix remake of Sabrina.

Clarissa Explains It All isn't the only Nickelodeon series that may return for a new generation of viewers.

Three years ago, Kriegman returned to the world of Clarissa Darling with a novel, Things I Can't Explain, in which the story follows her struggles as an adult in her late 20s. "At the same time, I think Clarissa ended on a note that could be explored again, because it didn't really have an ending-it sort of ended", she told The Hollywood Reporter in February.

For Nickelodeon, the decision to reboot Clarissa comes as the Viacom cable network recently plans to revive Blues Clues, handing out a 20-episode order for the animated preschool hit with a live-action host.
