A multistate E. coli outbreak from an unknown source has led to a number of hospitalizations is being investigated by federal and state officials. The outbreak has sicked 17 people across seven states, including two people in CT.

In a Tuesday, April 10 update, the CDC reports the outbreak had further reached the Midwest in OH and Pennsylvania.

The CDC is not recommending that consumers avoid any particular food at this time.

And that impression may hurt Republican candidate Josh Hawley, who has often known as for Greitens to step down, on the polls. When he was first indicted, there were a few people who came out, Republicans and Democrats, who called for him to resign.

While no deaths have been reported so far, six people have been sent to the hospital including one person with kidney failure. Restaurants and retailers are not now advised to avoid serving or selling any particular food. Illnesses started from March 22, 2018 to March 31, 2018.

A total of six cases were reported in New Jersey along with four in Idaho, two each in CT and Pennsylvania and one each in Missouri, Ohio and Washington.

However, the CDC has no clue from where the E. Coli bacteria has been contracted by the patient in OH, as no restaurant, food, or grocery store were discovered as possible sources for the E. Coli infection. State and local public health officials are interviewing ill people to determine what they ate and other exposures in the week before their illness began. Currently, New Jersey is the state with the most reported outbreaks, six cases of E. coli-related illness affecting residents.
