A body that was discovered in a ditch along an OH roadway 37 years ago has been identified as an Arkansas woman through the use of "revolutionary" DNA techniques.

King was officially identified on April 9 the Miami County, Ohio, Jane Doe who became known as "Buckskin Girl".

The "Buckskin Girl" name came from the distinctive buckskin jacket she was wearing.

Police said King's body was found on Greenlee Road in Miami County, Ohio on April 24, 1981.

"Miami County Sheriff's office has worked tirelessly to identify Marcia and they are now moving forward with a homicide investigation", a sheriff's officials said.

King was dead for less than two days before her body was found and investigators believe she was in the Louisville, Kentucky, and Pittsburgh areas before she was killed.

The scientific assistance that led to the victim's identification was conducted by the DNA Doe Project, a nonprofit organization created in 2017 to apply genealogy tools to the identification of unknown persons. It has been reported in the OH media that King's mother is now seeking to get her daughter's headstone updated.

"They requested that be respected", said Duchak. In 2009, her mitochondrial DNA profile was developed at the NamUs DNA lab, and both genetic profiles of the deceased were entered into the FBI's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).

Authorities said they didn't want to release too much information because the investigation into King's murder is still active.

Investigators are focusing on the last month of King's life. Speaking Wednesday, Miami County Sheriff Steve Lord said he has been in touch with the victim's family, who have been cooperative. More specifically, the DNA Doe Project, which uses the latest in forensic science to help identify unidentified murder victims, used hair and fiber samples to unveil the true identity of "Buckskin Girl".

"Buckskin Girl" was one of those cases.
