Apple 'recalls' Watch 2

"Apple has determined that under certain conditions, some Apple Watch Series 2 devices may not power on or they may experience an expanded battery", states an internal document distributed to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers, according to MacRumors.

"Apple will service eligible devices free of charge", it added. Fortunately those criteria are mainly that the Apple Watch be a 42mm Series 2 model.

The document, obtained by 9to5Mac, indicates that select Apple Watch Series 2 models may not power on or may experience an "expanded battery" under certain conditions. In addition to this, the company is said to provide assistance for up to 3-years after the initial purchase of the wearable. If you own the Apple Watch Series 1 or Series 3, unfortunately, you are not eligible to apply for free repairs. Coverage is also apparently limited to the 42mm Apple Watch Series 2 models, including the Sport Edition, Hermès, and Nike+ SKUs. Moreover, any 38mm variant of the Apple Watch is also not eligible to apply.

On Apple's support page on its website, it says that "many issues can be resolved" by restarting the Watch, which can be done by holding the side button, sliding power off on the screen, then once again holding the side button to switch it on. Apple will also fix watches when the display pops out of place due to the same issue.

Will you be taking advantage of Apple's revised service agreement? Apple has nearly always replaced or serviced such devices and generally covers expanded batteries past the 1-year warranty date, regardless of a program such as this.
