Trump called Mueller's investigation "an attack on our country", prompting new speculation that Trump might seek the removal of the Justice Department's special counsel, Robert Mueller. But he indicated in a late-afternoon tweet that they both would "fully cooperate with any search for the truth".

Public corruption prosecutors in the US attorney's office in Manhattan are trying to determine, according to one person familiar with the investigation, if there was any fraud related to payments to Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels. Cohen owns several medallions for New York City yellow cabs that allow them to pick up passengers on the street.

Cohen has acknowledged that he paid Daniels $130,000 in exchange for her promise not to talk publicly about an affair she said she had with Trump.

They said agents had already searched multiple email accounts maintained by Cohen.

"You could imagine a search warrant that describes that Michael Cohen got a loan from a bank to make a payment on Trump's behalf and made misrepresentations to the bank about how the money would be used", former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti told Bloomberg.

That's according to press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who said Tuesday that Trump "certainly believes that he has the power" to fire Mueller.

A USA prosecutor on Friday attacked a claim by President Donald Trump's longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen that numerous materials seized this week in FBI raids on Cohen's office and home as part of a criminal investigation should remain private.

Nixon wins Working Families Party support against Cuomo
WFP also voted to back Councilman Jumaane Williams (D-Brooklyn) for lieutenant governor over current LG Kathy Hochul. Cuomo's campaign announced that it would not seek the Working Families Party's endorsement this year.

"We're pretty confident there are thousands of privileged communications", Cohen's lawyer Todd Harrison told the judge. The raids were partly a referral by Mueller's office.

But the president's ire has been directed at Mueller and his boss, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

On Capitol Hill, a bipartisan group of four senators moved to protect Mueller's job. Rosenstein has repeatedly said he has not seen any reason to dismiss Mueller.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley says it would be political "suicide" for President Donald Trump to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.

Trump attorney Joanna Hendon told the judge that the president has "an acute interest in these proceedings and the manner in which these materials are reviewed".

The president on Wednesday continued his attacks on the Justice Department, tweeting that "much of the bad blood with Russian Federation is caused by the fake & corrupt Russian Federation investigation".

Trump said on Twitter Tuesday that "Attorney-client privilege is dead!"

The case against Syria's Bashar Assad
China's foreign ministry said it objected to the use of force and warned that it could complicate the situation in Syria . Pentagon officials said they met their objectives and struck the heart of the chemical weapons program.

The White House has consistently said Trump denies either affair.

The U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan made the filing after lawyers for Cohen and Trump asked a judge on Friday to block investigators from reviewing material the Federal Bureau of Investigation seized in a search of Cohen's office and residence on Monday.

In 2016, just before the election, Cohen made a $130,000 payment to Daniels for her discretion on an alleged sexual encounter she had with Trump in 2006.

A hearing on the searches has been set for 10:30 a.m. (1430 GMT) in a Manhattan federal court, the courthouse said. "And anyone who has ever hired a lawyer a close third".

Cohen has said he paid Daniels out of his own pocket shortly before the 2016 presidential election, but has not explained why.

The raid creates a new legal headache for Trump as he and his attorneys weigh whether to agree to an interview with Mueller's team.
