New campaign calls for 'people's vote' on final Brexit deal

Speaking at the rally, Green Party co-leader Caroline Lucas said: "We'll do everything we can in Parliament for a people's vote".

Both Labour and the Conservatives have ruled out holding a second referendum, but the People's Vote - which launches today with a rally in London - insisted leaving the European Union should not be seen as a "done deal".

Sir Patrick told BBC One's The Andrew Marr Show that the calls for a fresh vote were "part of democratic process".

He said the People's Vote campaign would argue that the public, not MPs, should get the final say on Brexit.

During a speech to the crowd, Green Party leader Ms. Lucas said: "We will be making the case in Parliament, but this is too big and too important to be determined exclusively by politicians".

Open Britain chief James McGrory said Brexit was "not inevitable".

Davis is resisting this, though his warning of a parliamentary veto could come back to haunt him when legislators get to vote on the draft deal. It should not be a done deal.

"Brexit will affect everybody in the country, which is why it should not be left to 650 politicians to decide our future but 65 million people".

Stewart said his alter egos, Star Trek's Jean-Luc Picard and the X-Men's Charles Xavier, were "excellent, admirable" individuals concerned about the well-being of all and "they would have voted Remain".

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson ridiculed the campaign, pointing out that the people's vote has already taken place.

The UK voted to exit the European Union by 51.9% to 48.1% in June 2016.

"They voted with a substantial majority to leave the EU".

Asked what he would say to people who voted for Brexit, he told the programme "what we are doing is in their benefit".

In the first referendum in June 2016, Britain voted by a 52-48 margin to leave the EU.

"The idea that uncertainty is going to disappear next year is quite wrong". Both sides are hoping to reach a deal by October, which would allow enough time for ratification.
