Once the user deleted that particular content from the WhatsApp folder on their device, there was no way to retrieve it. Addressing the issue, the latest update now allows a user to re-download content from the app.

According to a report by WAbetainfo, a new minor WhatsApp feature has been silently added to updates between 2.18.106 and 2.18.110.

WhatsApp reportedly appears all set to change its "delete for all" feature again.

As per a report by WABetaInfo, Whatsapp now allows download of deleted media files like images, videos, GIFs, and documents from Whatsapp's servers. The option to re-download content has been enabled on version 2.18.113, and users can test the same. Only if the file has been deleted in sdcard/WhatsApp/ and you have the message in the chat, you can successfully download it again.

If you have deleted the downloaded media content from the phone's storage, you can go back to the chat conversation on WhatsApp. Furthermore, if you can tap on Cancel button, which is present next to the timer to delete the recording. The only condition is that the message, which had the media attachment should not have been deleted by the sender, otherwise the download will not possible. Extremely old stuff from August 2017 wasn't accessible at all, with WhatsApp simply asking them to request the sender to forward the media again.

This new WhatsApp feature comes amid recent outrage over data leak by Facebook. In the past, If any user accidentally deleted his Whatsapp media folder, it was not possible for him to retract those files again.
