Yesterday, April 16, in NY has announced the winners of the Pulitzer prize-2018, awarded for achievements in journalism and literature.

The Pulitzer listing describes Lamar's recording as "a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life".

In the artistic categories, the award for fiction went to "Less", by Andrew Sean Greer, a globe-trotting chronicle of an aging novelist confronting middle age, career disappointments and travails in love.

But in a year when the media has been galvanised by digging into Trump's chaotic presidency, Lamar's award for his album Damn also stood out as the rapper from Compton, California became the first rap artist to win a Pulitzer in music. The ties fuelled special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into alleged Russian attempts to influence the presidential election.

Reuters won two Pulitzer Prizes, one for exposing the methods of police killing squads in Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs, and one for feature photography documenting the Rohingya migrant crisis between Myanmar and Bangladesh.

The public service prize was the sixth time The Times has received the prestigious award in the more than century-long history of the Pulitzers.
