The Indianapolis Star reported the egg recall is one of the largest to occur since 2010, when 500 million eggs were recalled from an Iowa producer amid almost 2,000 reported illnesses linked to salmonella.

Rose Acre has come under scrutiny before after three separate outbreaks that left about 450 people sick in three states were traced back to the farm in 1990.

Rose Acre Farms has 17 facilities in eight states, The Washington Post reported.

Unrelated, a year later in 2010, the largest salmonella-related egg recall in the United States occurred; after the FDA traced the outbreak-which sickened 1,500 people-to Iowa-based Quality Eggs, the agency forced a recall of 550 million eggs. The FDA recommends that Americans throw out any of the possibly contaminated eggs, and has a list of possibly contaminated packages which can be found here.

People who might have purchased the eggs are asked not to consume them and return them to the store for a refund.

The eggs were produced by Rose Acres Farms in Seymour, Indiana, and the company began the voluntary recall on April 13. The FDA says the eggs have reached consumers in Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

If you think you may have purchased eggs involved in this recall, check your carton for plant number P-1065 with the date range of 011 through date of 102, the FDA says.
