Allardyce sacked by Everton after seven months

Sam Allardyce has been relieved from his duties as Everton manager, the club has confirmed.

The former England boss took over at the Toffees in November, after the departure of Ronald Koeman, with the Merseyside club sitting 13th in the standings. However, despite doing what he was brought in to do, the 63-year-old was heavily criticised for his team's style of play and Everton fans were far from pleased with him and made it known.

Former Watford boss Marco Silva is the leading candidate to step into the Goodison Park hotseat.

West Ham United manager David Moyes left and Everton manager Sam Allardyce stand on the sideline during the English Premier League soccer match between West Ham United and Everton at the London Stadium in London Sunday

"On behalf of the Chairman, Board of Directors and Mr (Farhad) Moshiri, I'd like to thank Sam for the job he has done at Everton over the last seven months", Everton's newly-announced CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale said on the club's website. "Generally there's no smoke without fire".

"We've seen how we got in wrong last time, with the timing of Koeman's sacking and the money that was spent on signings".

Everton were the seventh Premier League outfit that Allardyce was in charge of after stints with Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, West Ham, Sunderland and Crystal Palace while he had a short spell at the helm of England before leaving in September 2016.

Silva has been out of work since January when he lost his job at Watford, who blamed Everton's approaches for the Portuguese coach's downfall.

Everton scored only 44 goals in 38 outings in the league, the second lowest tally of all teams outside the bottom six, and with the future in mind, the club have decided to make a change.

"I'm shocked, disappointed and disgusted that the football club didn't have the decency to tell me, my Director of Football and my staff about the changes", he told the Liverpool Post on Tuesday.
