Could North Carolina be site of new Apple campus?

Apple, too, is on the hunt for a new campus that will employ thousands of workers.

The Washington Post reported just yesterday that Apple was talking with Virginia officials for a new campus in Northern Virginia. Cooper has reportedly been negotiating an incentive package to entice Apple, but such a package is said to still need approval from the North Carolina state legislature.

Apple's plans are part of a pledge the company has made to invest $350 billion in the United States over the next five years, hire 20,000 more Apple employees, and set up a new Apple campus. The current proposal calls for a bare minimum of 3,000 new jobs at the new Apple facility, with an expansion to between 5,000 to 10,000 jobs once the project is fully complete.

Know anything about Apple's new campus? Apple has since been scouting for the location of the new Apple campus, which it said will be announced this year.

Amazon's own development plans have been known for a little while longer, though they hasn't been quite as specific.

There is certainly something about Northern Virginia that is catching the eye of tech companies, as the area is also among the 20 finalists for the location of the second Amazon headquarters.

There are also some connections to the company that could help Northern Virginia's chances. Business Insider claims that Apple is also very interested in the potential of North Carolina's Research Triangle region.

Apple's move into North Carolina is expected to consist of two stages: a 1,000-employee leased site off Weston Parkway in Cary, followed by a move to a 300-acre site in Research Triangle Park in Wake County.

"It's a done deal", one source said, "as soon as we pass this bill". According to some new reports, the site in North Carolina and Northern Virginia are under consideration.

Total investment by Apple in the state of NC for the new campus is estimated to be between $1.5 to $2 billion dollars upon completion. Where Amazon has been overt with its plans, leading to many public subsidy offers from states, and some protests from local residents, Apple is being far more secretive and has only promised to announce new plans for its future investment in US facilities later this year.

Ample supplies in the market and potential production increases by USA and European oil giants helped ease recent price hikes. Venezuela's production is plummeting, and output is 550,000 bpd below it's agreed upon target as part of the OPEC deal.
