MD Appeals New Trial for Adnan Syed

HBO announced Wednesday that it is co-producing a 4-hour documentary series, "The Case Against Adnan Syed", which will revisit the 1999 murder of Baltimore High School student Hae Min Lee.

The most recent legal development in Syed's battle for a new day in court occurred Monday, when prosecutors asked Maryland's highest court to reverse a ruling that would have granted Syed a new trial. Adnan Syed, Min Lee's ex-boyfriend, was found guilty of her murder and convicted to life in prison the following year, at age 17. In production since 2015, the series will re-examine the events leading up to Hae Min Lee's disappearance, the original police investigation, and the present day, when Syed awaits a new trial. Amy Berg, whose documentary Deliver Us From Evil, in 2006, investigated sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, will direct. By 2016, a Baltimore judge vacated the conviction and granted a new trial in light of new evidence challenging cell phone data that linked Syed to the crime, as well as testimony from an alibi witness.

NOAA finds rising emissions of ozone-destroying chemical banned by Montreal Protocol
If the study is verified, this would be a clear violation of the Montreal Protocol. "That's a tough group of people". This, in turn, will delay the ozone layer's recovery, and in the meantime leave it more vulnerable to other threats.

Instinct's Henrietta Conrad and Jemima Khan serve as executive producers alongside Working Title's Eric Fellner, Tim Bevan and Andrew Stearn. The series also includes "exclusive access to Adnan Syed, his family and his lawyers", as Berg "has been closely following their efforts to obtain justice, with the outcome still to be determined - and possibly shaped by the investigation pursued within the series itself".
