Sporting Lisbon's Netherlands global Bas Dost was injured after around 50 hooded supporters, armed with sticks and belts, attacked players and staff at the club's training complex, Portuguese media reported on Tuesday.

"Sporting is not this, Sporting can not be this", the club statement added.

Portuguese media published photographs of Dutch worldwide Dost with cuts on his head, and reports said that assistant coaches Mario Monteiro and Raul Jose suffered unspecified injuries.

There have also been rumours he suspended boss Jorge Jesus and his coaching staff on Monday, with senior players reportedly threatening to boycott Sunday's Taca de Portugal final out of solidarity with their coach. They also trashed a changing room.
