YouTube Will Now Publish Music Credits On Videos

YouTube videos with identifiable music will now feature credits complete with artist names and song and album titles in their descriptions. It will also include links to artist's various social channels and websites. It also provides more opportunities for artists and songwriters to reach YouTube's diverse audience, whether those viewers come to the platform for music videos, science experiments or beauty vlogs!

The introduction of song credits and discovery links on millions of fan-uploaded videos is a first for any platform, YouTube said.

Up until now, videos featuring music would have to write credits for music video directors and producers and featuring artists in the description. YouTube is now rolling out a new feature called "Music in this video" that will make it easier to figure it out. It has been a longstanding issue that platforms like YouTube and Spotify have had to deal with.

In a statement, YouTube says its new feature "strives to provide greater recognition and exposure to the people who contribute to the creative process".

By contrast, YouTube has clarified that its move had been made possible by the ingestion of metadata from labels, publishers and music licensing societies around the world.

The new section will show up on over half a billion videos.
