Kerr, New Zealand women set up records

Walking out to open with Amy Satterthwaite, Kerr became just the second women cricketer, and seventh overall, to go past the 200-run mark in one-day global cricket. She was involved in a record second-wicket partnership with Leigh Kasperek who scored her maiden ODI hundred before being out on 113 off 105 with 10 fours.

Post the double, Kerr had four overs to overtake the Australian's long-standing record and the teenager eclipsed that with a six off the final ball of the New Zealand innings.

New Zealand teenager Amelia Kerr shattered a world batting record in women's one-day worldwide cricket with a blistering 232 not out against Ireland on Wednesday.

It is the third-highest ODI total ever, beaten only by India's Rohit Sharma (264) and Kiwi Martin Guptill's 237 against the West Indies in 2015. At 17 years and 243 days, Kerr is also the youngest double-centurion in the format across genders.

"It was pretty surreal". Kerr reached her double-century off 134 deliveries with a four in the 46th over. "I knew that the powerplay was coming so once we got to the powerplay, with only three out, I was going to try to go hard then".

"I didn´t think I was going to bowl".

"I could hear announcements [about her records] being made over the loudspeakers but I couldn't hear because of all the clapping".

"I was a bit sore", Kerr said.

Before her record breaking score, the Wellington Blaze all-rounder had only managed 174 ODI runs in her fledgling career.

Her unbeaten 232, set when batting through the entire White Ferns innings, set a new benchmark for the highest score in women's ODI history.

Victory saw the White Ferns complete a 3-0 series sweep over Ireland, with every one of those wins by colossal margins of over 300 runs.
