He was hospitalized in June with terminal cancer, and his wife Katherine, along with some of his children and grandchildren, had been at his bedside.

Supposedly, he had been battling the illness for a long time but not too long ago, the medical specialists told the family that there was nothing more they could do so his time on this Earth was limited.

According to TMZ, he also ended up in the hospital after a stroke in 2016.

Jackson had been dogged by ill health - and rumors to that effect - for years. Those rumors were quickly dispelled by Jackson himself.

Despite his old age, Joe recovered proving how tough he was. "The sun rises when the time comes and whether you like it or not the sun sets when the time comes", he wrote. In 1975, Joe Jackson oversaw a new deal for the band-now renamed The Jacksons-with Epic Records, the label for which Michael would ultimately record the massively successful albums Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad, and unsafe.

He managed three of them, Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine, as a trio in the early 1960s. Their first single, "Big Boy", was released on January 30, 1968 on the Steeltown Records label. The artists he signed toured with The Jackson 5 that year, performing as the groups' opening acts during their global tour.

They first sparked romance rumors at the 2017 MET Gala, where they walked the red carpet together in Ralph Lauren designs. Sources close to Priyanka told the publication that they chose to get engaged during their ongoing India trip.

Randy, the youngest Jackson brother, replaced Jermaine in the mid-1970s when the group left Motown and became The Jacksons at CBS; Jermaine, then married to founder Berry Gordy's daughter Hazel, stayed behind and launched a solo career. Joe Jackson also represented his daughters La Toya, Rebbie, and Janet, the latter of whom he asked to join the Jacksons' traveling nightclub show when she was just seven.

Michael Jackson's estate released a statement mourning the death. Joe was portrayed by actors Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs and Frederic Tucker, respectively.

Jackson was honored as Best Entertainment Manager of All Time by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, according to Billboard.
