First Boys Rescued Emerge

On Sunday, as news of the first rescues flashed worldwide, President Donald Trump tweeted for the first time about the soccer team, saying the United States was working "very closely with the government of Thailand to help get all of the children out of the cave and to safety".

Extracting everyone from the cave could take up four days, but Sunday's success raised hopes that could be done.

He said the boys rescued Sunday are strong and safe but need to undergo detailed medical checks.

Parents say they haven't been told which boys were taken out of the cave, and have not been allowed to visit them in hospital.

Chiang Rai acting Gov. Narongsak Osatanakorn said 13 foreign and five Thai divers were taking part in the rescue and two divers will accompany each boy as they are gradually extracted.

Authorities have paused the global effort to replenish air tanks along the treacherous exit route.

The next operation for the rest is set to resume in 10-20 hours, with officials and volunteers buoyed by the fact that their method of rescuing the boys by diving has been successful so far, he said.

"I would like to inform the public at home and those who have been giving us support all along, after 16 days, today's the day we've been waiting for, we are seeing the Wild Boars in the flesh now".

In this undated photo released by Royal Thai Navy on July 7, 2018, Thai rescue teams arrange water pumping system at the entrance to a flooded cave complex where 12 boys and their soccer coach have been trapped since June 23, in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai province, northern Thailand.

Heavy monsoon rains lashed the mountainous Chiang Rai region, where the Tham Luang Nang Non cave is situated, for several hours overnight on Sunday.

A health official did tell local media that the boys should hopefully be able to see their families on Monday night but there could be "no hugging, no touching", until their blood work comes back.

Kittichok Kankeaw, a teammate of Nattawut Takamsai, one of the trapped boys, said he would try to assist his friend to catch up at school.

Thirteen global divers and five Thai Navy SEAL divers will attempt to bring the boys through narrow, submerged passageways that claimed the life of a former Thai diver earlier this week.

Who are the boys and their coach?

The boys who have already been rescued have been rushed to hospital for 48 hour observation following their ordeal.

One early potential plan was to leave them there for months until the monsoon season ended and the floods subsided completely, but that idea was scrapped over concerns about falling oxygen levels and waters rising too high.

He added doctors assessed they were "very fit physically and mentally".

The search and rescue operation has involved dozens of worldwide experts and rescuers, including a USA military team. Late Sunday, it posted that a fourth boy is out of the cave.
