Liverpool open talks with Stoke City over Xherdan Shaqiri

Liverpool are in talks to sign Stoke's Switzerland midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri and could trigger his release clause, believed to be more than £13m.

The Switzerland worldwide, now on holiday after appearing at the World Cup, has a release clause in the region of £13.5million and the Potters are resigned to losing one of their prized assets after relegation from the Premier League.

The Swiss global will leave relegated Stoke City this summer, this much we knew already.

US Embassy issues warning of possible Trump protest violence

The Echo reports that Shaqiri would prefer a move to Liverpool and Stoke are hopeful that selling the Swiss global to the Reds would mean they would be more willing to loan out one of Harry Wilson and Sheyi Ojo.

Shaqiri's career makes for impressive reading despite the recent relegation with Stoke, with stints at Bayern Munich and Inter Milan displaying the huge potential the 5'7 winger possessed earlier in his playing days.

The 21-year-old scored in Tuesday's 3-2 win over Tranmere and is keen to make an impression on Klopp.

Fifth boy removed from Thailand cave as rescue mission continues
On Sunday, officials waited until several hours after the rescued boys had been transported to hospitals to announce their rescue. Upon exiting the cave, they were evacuated by helicopter and ambulance to hospital in Chiang Rai province, where they remain.

Shaqiri could do little to stop Stoke from sliding down to the Championship from the Premier League last season and is on his way out of the Potters this summer.

Shaqiri was among Switzerland's best players in their run to the last 16 of the World Cup, scoring a late victor in their only victory, against Serbia. He admitted that he would like to leave following last season's relegation. Fekir is now part of the French squad which have made it to the World Cup final.
