Rodolfo Rodriguez, 92, told KTLA-TV on Saturday that he was taking a walk around his neighborhood on July 4 when he accidentally bumped into a little girl walking with her mother as he was trying to get around them.
Though the Los Angeles Police Department have yet to clarify whether or not they believe this to be a motivated hate crime, Twitter users have used the incident as a means to cry out against similarly racist acts.
'Who would do this to anybody?' Rodriguez's grandson Erik Mendoza told KCBS. He said he apologized and turn to continue his walk when the woman hit him from behind, knocking him to the floor. The campaign has already raised over $30,000, which is $15,000 more than the family had asked for. Rodriguez-a permanent resident, per the Washington Post-says he was headed to a Willowbrook park when he passed a woman who "hit me until she was done".

According to KTLA, 92-year-old Rodolfo Rodriguez was walking after eating dinner on the Fourth of July.
"And then when one of the witnesses comes out of her vehicle and starts screaming at her, four other guys come in and start kicking on him", Mendoza told KTLA.
"Go back to your country, why are you here, bad things", the witness said the mother told Rodriguez, who is a legal US resident, according to the station.
"She was yelling at him, 'Go back to your country, ' or 'Go back to Mexico, '" Borjas said, via The Los Angeles Times.
