All are now recovering in hospital after the ordeal.

The wife of a former Thai navy diver who died working to rescue a young soccer team trapped for days in a flooded cave said on Thursday she missed him dearly and urged the boys not to blame themselves for his death. Some made the two-finger victory sign from their hospital beds. NDTV delivers reliable information across all platforms: TV, Internet and Mobile.

Derek Anderson, a 32-year-old rescue specialist with the U.S. Air Force based in Okinawa, Japan, said the dozen boys, ranging in age from 11 to 16, and their coach, who were trapped for more than two weeks before being rescued this week, were "incredibly resilient".

Nopparat Kanthawong, the head coach of the Wild Boars team, told CNN that he did not know why the boys had gone into the cave.

His employer, South Australia's ambulance service, said his family's grief had been "magnified" by the physical and emotional demands of the rescue operation.

The final four boys and their 25-year-old coach were brought to safety on Tuesday, having entered the network for exploration on 23 June before it became flooded by monsoon rains.

Despite their mostly good health, all the boys need to be observed in the hospital for seven days and then rest at home for another 30 days. They were found by a pair of British divers almost 10 days later, huddled on a small, dry shelf just above the water, smiling with relief but visibly skinny.

About 40 percent of the boys' journey through the water of at least three hours involved diving and in other parts water was up to the rescuers' chests, Thai Navy SEAL commander Rear Admiral Apakorn Yuukongkaew, told reporters on Wednesday.

"The teamwork that they went through to get them out is quite phenomenal really".

Thailand spent yesterday celebrating the successful mission.

The Canadian, speaking to Reuters a day after the rescue ended, said he had no plans to dive again anytime soon.
