Greenyard, the company at the center of a frozen vegetable listeria contamination scare, says its top priority is the on-going recall initiative working with supermarkets to call back certain batches amid concern that they could contain the bacteria.

Listeriosis is an illness usually caused by eating food contaminated by bacteria which can grow in food at refrigeration temperatures, the department said.

Although uncommon, it can be particularly risky for pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.

The product is sourced from Belgium and contains frozen sweetcorn from the Greenyard Factory in Hungary.

The Food Standards Agency has named more products that are being withdrawn from the shelves of United Kingdom supermarkets following a Europe-wide food poisoning alert.

Consumers are urged not to eat the products and to return to the place of purchase for a refund.
