Some 20 Ryanair flights scheduled to fly between Ireland and the United Kingdom next Friday have been cancelled ahead of the day's strike, affecting around 3,500 passengers.

Ryanair cancelled 24 of around 2,300 daily flights after a second one-day strike by Irish pilots.

Spanish pilots union Sepla has announced it is suing the Irish airline in Spain's High Court over its pilot contracts.

Pilots in Belgium and Sweden have announced a walkout for Friday, August 10.

Ryanair pilots in Sweden, Belgium and Ireland are set to strike, so far causing the cancellation of another 20 flights to and from Ireland.

Ryanair condemned the strike announced by Forsa, a powerful trade union in the Irish public service sector, which represents the interests of Ryanair's Ireland-base pilots.

The Irish carrier scrapped 20 flights out of a planned 300, seven per cent of the total, affecting 3,500 passengers.

Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary waived his hefty yearly bonus, according to the airline's annual report out Monday.

Ryanair has received a notice from Forsa about a fifth strike to be held on August 10, the company said in a statement.

"FORSA should also explain why when Ryanair has agreed nine of their 11 requirements, they call strikes rather than negotiate".

The airline is bracing itself for another round of strike action next Friday, when 25 per cent of its pilots will strike.
