FCA complains against Mahindra over Roxor - Jeep similarity

FCA says that Mahindra manufactures the SUV at a lower price in India, and sells it in the United States market.

The company has asked the US International Trade Commission to investigate into the Mahindra Roxor SUV that, according to FCA, has copied styling elements of the Willys Jeep that was used in the World War II.

"FCA has appealed to authorities to bring an immediate halt to all sales and marketing activities of the Mahindra Roxor in the United States while calling it unlawful and unauthorized". Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has had a hard look into the Roxor and chose to file USA trade compliant against Mahindra, as it resembles the iconic Jeep despite Mahindra making changes to differentiate it from Thar or any other older models.

Other signatories to the 2015 deal - including European countries, China and Russian Federation - have said they will try to keep it afloat.

"They are a almost identical copy of the iconic Jeep design", the company said in its complaint, which included photos comparing the Roxor to the Jeep. The complaint - which included photos comparing the Roxor to the Jeep - claims that the off-roader (which is based on the Thar) infringes key characteristics of Jeep's signature design such as the "boxy body shape with flat-appearing vertical sides and rear body ending at about the same height as the hood". Mahindra has not yet been served with the complaint and we prefer not to comment at length on the dispute at this time.

MANA is part of the $19 billion Mahindra Group and recently opened a new NA Automotive headquarters and manufacturing center in Auburn Hills.

Built in India since 1949, the Roxor's first ancestor was a Willys-licensed design that very closely resembled the military Jeep.

Venezuela arrests six 'terrorists' over attempted Maduro hit
The Broad Front, a coalition of opposition groups in Venezuela , accused the government of making an allegation without proof. The visibly shaken head of state said he saw a "flying device" that exploded before his eyes.

FCA filed the complaint against Mahindra on August 1, 2018. "However, we have reviewed FCA's core filing and find it to be without merit", said the Mumbai-based company. "The accused product was 'modelled after the original Willys Jeep", Fiat Chrysler added, in its complaint.

"Our actions, products, and product distribution (including Roxor) both honor the legacy of the relationship and the terms of our agreements with FCA", said Rich Ansell, a spokesman for Mahindra's North American unit. The company recently opened a manufacturing center in MI where the Roxor is assembled as an off-highway side-by-side.

Now it's upto US International Trade commission to decide on whether Mahindra & Mahindra will be allowed to continue selling its two-seater ROXOR in US.
