Two elderly men ditched their nursing home in Germany on Friday, and ended up at what's widely considered the world's largest heavy metal festival.

These days, nearly anything could happen to a missing elderly man, but this story had quite a happy end.

Per a police statement released to German radio station Norddeutscher Rundfunk, the two elder metalheads "obviously liked the metal festival", but added that the care home quickly organised transport for them and brought them back to the care home - presumably with sore necks from all the headbanging.

Wacken is one of the biggest heavy metal festivals in the world, and it's clear these two blokes weren't gonna let age, security or basic walls stop them from missing out on the fun.

While it's not known which bands the two men were keen on checking out, it appears that they weren't too happy about being forced to leave the festival grounds, and had to be escorted out with the help of a taxi and police patrol auto.

The festival, which ran from August 1 to 4, is a must attend for all die-hard heavy metal fans like these two old fogies. Headliners included Clawfinger, Dimmu Borgir, In Extremo, Judas Priest, Nightwish, Oomph as well as the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
