This brings a new level of efficiency to Samsung's consumer SSDs.

The use of the widespread SATA standard over newer but still less-common Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) connectivity, though, means that said performance is distinctly mid-tier in the wider market: Samsung's internal testing claims a sequential read speed of 540MB/s and a sequential write speed of 520MB/s, fast enough as SATA drives go but considerably below the gigabyte-per-second-plus of NVMe equivalents. Along with the 4TB drive, it will introduce 1TB and 2TB SATA SSDs later this year.

Nearly all storage manufacturers are pushing higher in capacity, with Seagate unleashing a line of Barracuda SSDs earlier this year using 3-bit QLC chips.

Ontario to offer incentives to brewers in buck-a-beer plan
The People's Pint , a brewery based in Toronto, said it would not be joining what it called a "race to the bottom" on Twitter . Paul Meek with Kitchesippi Beer Company isn't on board with the idea. "I don't see it being a thing.

It has started mass producing the "industry's first" 4-bit 4TB SATA solid-state drive for consumers, with the objective of releasing the new drive "later this year".

According to Jaesoo Han, the EVP of memory sales at Samsung Electronics, "Samsung's new 4-bit SATA SSD will herald a massive move to terabyte-SSDs for consumers".

The company said that as data stored within a memory cell increases from three bits to four, the chip capacity per unit area would typically rise and the electrical charge - which is used to determine information from a sensor - would decrease by as much as 50%. Pricing and exact availability have yet to be announced.

Trump says tariffs 'working far better' than anticipated
Trump portrays the tariffs as a tax on foreigners, but the reality is that tariffs are taxes on USA companies and consumers. But Bloomberg pointed out that US stocks have yet to regain strong January performances since the escalating trade war.

Previously $190, the T5 drive is on sale for just $128.

The SSDs are the "industry's first" to use 4-bit V-NAND memory tech. The hardware will have a 2.5-inch form factor making it ideal for smaller devices.

Starting at $599, the new drive family promises improved performance and offers greater capacity for workstation users and desktop enthusiasts. While you can get SSDs with a terabyte or more space, they're extremely expensive.
