California Gov. Jerry Brown signs renewable energy bill

The co-chairs of the San Francisco climate summit include former NY mayor and philanthropist Michael Bloomberg, UN climate chief Patricia Espinosa, and China's top climate official, Xie Zhenhua.

This bill requires that 50% of California's electricity must be powered by renewable resources by the year 2025. It is more of a goal than a mandate. Hawaii has adopted a similar goal.

Large-scale energy storage systems can help address that problem, Sommer said, as could a "better-connected transmission grid system". By 2030, 60% of the total energy required must come from renewable resources, and by 2045, state legislature hopes to have achieved a 100% renewable power use. Between 2008 and 2015, the price utilities paid for solar energy dropped 77 percent.

That's right: 100 percent "clean energy" in 27 years. "It makes too much sense".

The summit aims to secure commitments from cities, states, provinces, countries and corporations to reduce greenhouse gases that the world's leading scientific organizations say are trapping heat in the atmosphere and warming the planet.

And Trump says , "Who's paying for it?" "This is a war on truth by [Trump]", Woodward claimed. Trump, meanwhile, has dismissed the book as a "scam" filled with "made up" quotes.

Approval of the bill comes in the wake of a report detailing the effects of climate change on California.

The nation's largest state now gets just over one-third of its energy from wind, solar or geothermal power, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The state ranks 15th in natural gas production.

"California must take a stand and tell the world we are, as always, undeterred by those who wish to stop our progress and move backwards", Schwarzenegger wrote.

The measure was written by state Sen. De León said the legislation was a "labor of love".

"Today we're setting a marker that will be remembered by future generations", de Leon said. Carbon neutrality refers to achieving net zero carbon emissions by balancing a measured amount of carbon released with an equivalent amount sequestered or offset, or buying enough carbon credits to make up the difference.

The order directs several state agencies to set targets for artificially removing carbon dioxide from the air through a process known as "sequestration".

Energy Storage North America (ESNA), the most influential gathering of policy, technology and market leaders in energy storage, applauds Governor Jerry Brown and the California State Legislature for passing landmark Senate Bill (SB) 100, which sets the largest-scale zero-emission electricity targets ever established for a US state.
